The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excesses of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. The copyright law extends its protection to unpublished works from the moment of creation in a tangible form. Direct your questions concerning copyright to the reference staff.

This collection consists of three distinct files for John F. Kennedy's 1946, 1952, and 1958 congressional campaigns.
Arranged alphabetically by subject.
This series contains material related to John F. Kennedy's 1946 congressional campaign and includes press releases, committee lists, and a campaign platform. For additional information on the 1946 campaign, see also: Series 1.1. Boston Office General Correspondence; Series 1.7. Scrapbooks; Series 2.2. Boston Office Speech Files; and the Personal Papers of John F. Kennedy.
Arranged into five subseries: Issues and Speeches Files; Campaign Effort Files; Files on Henry Cabot Lodge; Eisenhower Campaign Statements Files; and Newspaper Clippings.
This series contains materials related to John F. Kennedy's 1952 Senate campaign and includes speeches; background material on campaign issues; lists of campaign workers; files on Kennedy's opponent, Henry Cabot Lodge; campaign statements by President Dwight Eisenhower; and newspaper clippings. The material in this series was formerly in three locations: the Washington office, the Boston office, and the President's Office Files. Because there was not an obvious overall arrangement to the materials in any of these three files and because there was no apparent difference among them, the files were interfiled and arranged in five loose subject groupings. There is still much duplication of folder titles within series.
alphabetical by topic.
This series contains campaign issues subject files and speeches. The first alphabetical sequence comes almost intact and without any additions from the papers of the Senator's Washington office. Other materials dealing with issues follow in another alphabetical sequence. This accounts for double listings of several folder titles. Following these subject files are reports prepared by the Research Division of the Democratic National Committee and others about Kennedy's voting record, briefing papers for the Kennedy-Lodge debate in Waltham (16 September 1952), and a small speech file. Folders labeled "POF" were transferred from the President's Office Files.
This file contains background material, drafts, and copies of speeches by Representative John F. Kennedy and others for his 1952 senatorial campaign. Topics include immigration legislation, inflation, the balance of payments, housing, and health care. This folder contains some Italian-language material.
alphabetical by topic.
The large alphabetical sequence of this subseries covers the details of the campaign: publicity, endorsements, literature, and campaign workers' materials. Following is an alphabetical file from the President's Office Files, and lists of campaign workers. Included are the papers of the ethnic group effort: an extended folder title entry "Nationality Group Files" contains material which was kept as a whole in the Senator's Washington office. There is much duplication of folder titles. This series ends with voter and organization lists.
This file contains statements by Representative John F. Kennedy on various issues in his 1952 senatorial campaign including communism, immigration, civil rights, the high cost of living, and the record of his opponent Senator Henry Cabot Lodge. Also included in this file is a press release urging the repeal of the Taft-Hartley labor union law.
This file contains letters to Senator-elect John F. Kennedy from various individuals regarding his appearance on the television program "Meet the Press" and offering congratulatory remarks on his victory in the 1952 senatorial campaign.
