The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law. The copyright law extends its protection to unpublished works from the moment of creation in a tangible form. Direct your questions concerning copyright to the reference staff.

The Boston Globe is a daily newspaper published in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1872 by Eben Jordan (of Jordan Marsh) and subsequently published by General Charles H. Taylor. The Taylor family acted as publishers of The Boston Globe through 1999. In 1973, it became a subsidiary of Affiliated Publications and both The Boston Globe and Affiliated Publications were purchased by The New York Times Company in 1993. The Boston Globe is currently run by The New York Times Company.
The Boston Globe Photograph Collection consists of 8x10" black-and-white prints and negatives showing historic images of the extended Kennedy family. It begins with images of John F. Kennedy’s grandfather and namesake John Francis "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, as well as his wife, sisters, children and homes. It also contains images of John F. Kennedy’s father Joseph P. Kennedy with his wife and children. Additionally, there are prints of John F. Kennedy from his childhood through his early political career. The provenance of these photographs is unknown. Likewise, the specific creators of the images are not identified or known. Many prints in this collection can also be found in the Boston Herald Photograph Collection (#5033), Series 2. Family, ca. 1880-1969 (Acc. PX78-32).
Images were printed by the John F. Kennedy Library from copy negatives. Captions from original prints are included for some images, this information seems to have come from the reverse of original prints, and may have been written by Boston Globe staff. Prints and captions are cross referenced by PX number.
Arranged by subject [as originally received].
The series consists of 8x10" black-and-white prints showing the Fitzgerald and Kennedy families. There is one folder of historic stock images of Boston and one folder of photos of Arthur Reginald Evans, who was involved with the rescue of PT 109. John F. Kennedy is pictured, as are his parents, grandparents, and siblings. The folders remain in the same order in which they were donated, with specific titles and dates added for clarity.
